March madness, indeed.
A coin toss Saturday night decided who moved on and who went home after a Bantam double “A” playoff game ran long, and ultimately, out out of time.
The Calgary Royals and Buffalo Wranglers were tied after regulation, but due to the length of the game there wasn’t enough time to play overtime or even have a 3 player shoot-out to decide the winner of the series.
Enter a Hockey Calgary official who decided a coin toss would declare a victor. That coin sent the Wranglers to the next round of the playoffs.
Royals head coach Jarvis Bender believes an error was made when booking ice time at Winsport. Bender says it was tough on his players having their season come down to the flip of a coin.
He adds parents were also upset after the investment of time, effort and money everyone put into the season.
