Lethbridge police are searching for suspects in a violent home invasion where a pet dog was shot and killed.
It happened in the 1900 block of 23 Street North at around 12:40 p.m. on Monday.
Two people, a man and woman, were at home at the time. They told police two masked men entered their house, threatening them with a gun and demanding money.
According to police, there were two large dogs in the house, one which “became aggressive” with the suspects.
“The male with the firearm fired one round which struck the dog,” a Tuesday news release said.
The dog was taken to the emergency vet clinic but died as a result of its injuries.
Police describe one of the suspects as about 5’8” with a slender build, grey coat, light blue pants and a balaclava. The second suspect was 6’1” with a chunky build, dark coat, dark or black dress pants and a balaclava.
Investigators believe the incident was drug-related and “not a random crime.”
