Students are returning to a high school in Abbotsford, B.C. today where a grade nine student was stabbed to death and her friend injured six days ago.
The crime brings back the horror of what happened to Diane Lang’s son in Taber back in 1999. Jason Lang died in a school shooting at W.R. Myers.
Lang says it’s important that students get the emotional support they need to heal from Letisha Reimer’s death last Tuesday.
“Something like this changes your life forever and if you’re not able to move forward then it leaves you in not a very healthy space. That effects your health physically as well as mentally and emotionally.”
Lang and her husband returned to their son’s school when it reopened after the shooting.
Counsellors and mental-health experts have been working with students and parents and will be at the school today as it reopens.
Meanwhile the 21-year-old charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with last week’s attack will appear in court today. Gabriel Klein is charged with second degree murder and aggravated assault.
