Sunshine Village is the first Canadian ski resort to open for the season.
This is the earliest opening on record for Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort in over 30 years.
The resort said Tuesday that with a current base of over 69 cm of snow, it is poised for a strong start to the 2016-2017 season.
The Wawa, Strawberry, Jackrabbit and Wolverine chairlifts will open to the public on Thursday, as well as one eight-passenger gondola and a magic carpet. The resort will also offer its full slate of ski programs.
Banff’s only ski-in, ski-out hotel, the Sunshine Mountain Lodge, is slated to open on Friday, Nov. 11.
Visitors are being advised to use caution as the early season means there may be some unmarked hazards throughout the resort.
