First responders and members of the public, who dealt with the Fort McMurray wildfire, were honoured at the Alberta Legislature Monday.
All party leaders spoke of the valiant and selfless service by first responders. Wildrose leader Brian Jean, who lost his own home in the fire, became emotional several times as he spoke.
Jean recognized the people who lined the highways providing food and gasoline to the long line of travellers evacuating the area.
Premier Rachel Notley says Albertans didn’t sit idly by and simply watch the wildfire wreak havoc, they acted. She says the devastating event is a reminder and demonstration of the spirit of Alberta, that when times are at their worst, Albertans are at their best.
Alberta Party leader Greg Clark urged the first responders to not forget to take care of themselves after going through such an emotional event.
