The Washington Capitals snapped the Calgary Flames winning streak at three games with a 3-1 win at the Saddledome Sunday night.
Goaltender Brian Elliott was solid for the Flames making several key stops in the first and second period as the Caps had the better scoring opportunities of the two teams.
Washington went out to a 2-0 lead in the first on goals by Brett Connolly and Marcus Johansson, Mikael Backlund cut the margin in half with his first goal of season later in the period.
The Caps did not show any signs of fatigue after having played Saturday night in Vancouver.
The teams played a scoreless second and in the third it was Johansson scoring into an empty net to seal the win. His second straight two goal game for Washington.
Calgary now goes on a four game road trip which starts Tuesday night in Chicago.
