The Canadian Finals Rodeo might not be leaving Edmonton after all.
Edmonton city councillor and Northland’s board member Tony Caterina says plans have somehow fallen through for the event to take place in Saskatoon in 2017. “I don’t know what the circumstances were in Saskatoon, but even earlier on it seemed like a stretch that Saskatoon could support such and event, but the decision was made by CFR initially and it looks like they obviously looked at it again and Edmonton is back in play again.”
As for how long CFR will stay in Edmonton, Caterina couldn’t exactly say. “I can’t give you any details until we start to discuss this as a board and as a city to see how this could be accommodated for the long term if that’s the plan going forward, if that’s that agreement going forward. I don’t know the terms at this point — whether it’s a year, five years, ten years.”
Caterina says he’ll learn more at a board meeting scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Calgary Tourism thought about hosting the CFR earlier this year but never submitted a formal bid.
