A freezing rain warning for Calgary has been ended. Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Sundre, Brooks, Strathmore and Vulcan are also out from under the warning.
But the system is still affecting many areas in central Alberta. The warning continues from the Rocky Mountain House and Caroline areas, through Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail and Stettler, to Hanna, Coronation, Oyen, Drumheller and Three Hills. Earlier callers reported slippery conditions around olds with some cars off the road.
Environment Canada says some areas could see up to 5 mm of ice accumulation which could lead to a significant threat to transportation corridors. Freezing rain will end from west to east by this afternoon.
Meanwhile a snowfall warning is in effect for Banff National Park. 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected by this afternoon, particularly north of the townsite on the Icefields Parkway.
The Edmonton region is also expected to get a mix of freezing rain and snow today. The snow is expected to move on by this evening, possibly leaving as much as 15 cm in some areas.
