For the second year in a row, a study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives ranks Victoria as the best city to be a woman in Canada.
The organization ranked 25 cities, looking at economic security, education , health, leadership and personal safety.
Senior researcher Kate McInturff says Victoria scored well because of the number of women in politics. Victoria has a female mayor and is the only city in the study to have more women than men on its council.
Calgary was near the bottom of the list, coming in at 23rd spot.
The big reason for that was a lack of leadership roles for women. The study points out women hold only two city council seats and when it comes to women in senior management positions, Calgary women hold only 29 per cent of these positions.
Woman in Calgary, even those working full-time, still earn only 65 per cent of what men earn in the city.
