The Calgary Police Commission is defending the results of its citizen satisfaction survey.
A poll by Illumina shows 94% of people are satisfied with the services provided by local police, which is in stark contrast to a recent Mainstreet/Postmedia poll that shows only 39% approved of the performance of police.
Officials with Illumina says there is a tremendous difference between the two polls in that the commission survey is about confidence compared to Mainstreet asking about approval. They say they don’t know what people in that poll were basing their ratings on – whether it was traffic tickets or crime.
The police commission does admit that the satisfaction confidence rating has trended downward and that it is important to restore the public’s confidence in the system.
