Paper coffee cups are now being accepted in your Blue Cart.
The City of Calgary’s Waste and Recycling services says residents have been asking about coffee cup recycling for some time now.
Paper soft drink cups from fast food restaurants are also now allowed in the blue cars.
Paper sleeves are also acceptable, but plastic lids, stir sticks and straws should be tossed in the trash.
“Plastic lids may have recycling symbols on them, but that does not mean they are compatible with the Blue Cart program. The lids are too small and light for the recycling facility to properly sort them. They should be thrown in the garbage along with liquids, stir sticks, and straws,” explains Waste & Recycling Services, Leader of Program Management, Sharon Howland.
Despite the convenience of paper cuts, the city is still encouraging resuable cofffee cups.
