How does the Calgary Board of Education justify this cost? A million dollars a year to operate a bus/student tracking system. Students who take a bus to school have a special pass that they swipe when they get on or off the bus. Soon parents will be able to download an app to see if their child is on or off the bus.
As a parent I’m sure there’s nothing more alarming than finding out your child isn’t on their bus or missed their stop but that still doesn’t justify spending a million dollars for this system. We are raising children to believe that around every corner there is a boogie-man and that they can’t do anything or be anywhere without us knowing their every move.
Most kids already have their own cell phone with a GPS. If parents really need to know where their kids are use the technology that is already available. I’m sure a million dollars would go a long way to reducing the cost of transporting kids to school instead of just tracking them while they’re on the bus.
