An e-petition was presented in the House of Commons Tuesday calling on the federal government to vocally support the oil and gas industry and new pipelines.
The petition was signed by over 34,000 (34,537) Canadians from across the country and represents the highest signed House of Commons e-petition ever presented.
Mark Scholz, President of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors, says it proves that Canadians support the industry.
“These are not paid protestors. These are not radical activists. These are regular hardworking Canadians that understand the benefits the industry provides to all of Canada.”
He adds that signatures came from people all across the country. Most of the support was from Alberta, followed by Ontario.
Shannon Stubbs, a Member of Parliament from Alberta (Lakeland) officially presented the petition on Tuesday.
