An inquiry is being launched by Alberta’s education minister into a Christian School Board’s stance on Gay-Straight Alliances.
David Eggen says he was not pleased with the response he received from the Independent Baptist Christian Education Society when he asked for written assurance that it would comply with the law of allowing GSA’s if students wanted them.
Eggen says the province has asked a third party to investigate the school authority and a report is expected back within several months.
The authority runs two private Christian schools and about 70 per cent of its funding comes from the province.
Pastor Brian Coldwell, chair of the authority, has said the province is violating charter guarantees on freedom of religion.
