…Not just the title of a cheesy Sly Stallone action movie franchise, it’s the growing list of ex-Stampeders falling victim to a youth movement on defense. The latest name on that list is Taylor Reed, who mercifully wasn’t out of work long as he signed with Ottawa this morning.
Dave Dickenson made no secret of the plan to get younger on the defensive side in the off season, and we’ve seen numerous examples of that with players like Keon Raymond, Juwan Simpson, Fred Bennet, Jeff Hecht, DeMonte Bolden and now Reed being shown the door.
Reed might not have been int he plan for this year, but Alex Singleton forced John Hufnagel’s hand. Drafted as a potential ratio breaker at Middle Linebacker thanks to his mom hailing from Toronto, Singleton has showed time and again his future is now, as he gradually took more and more reps from Reed before taking over as the starter two weeks ago.
It’s not easy seeing players get let go, but Singleton gave the Stamps no choice.
