It could be Wednesday before campers at a Sundre area RV park are allowed back in to assess the damage from a violent wind storm.
The Tall Timber Leisure Park was evacuated Monday when the storm that hit much of Alberta came up suddenly and started toppling trees and power lines.
Rebecca Trotter is manager of the park and tells Global News there was little warning.
“It came out of nowhere, we weren’t expecting it and before we knew it we had trees down all over the park. It was pretty frightening. There was a lot of rain, heavy rain and then all of a sudden the wind started-but gently. We didn’t expect the trees to start coming down, but they sure did.”
Trotter she called emergency services and they called for the park to be evacuated.
She expects Fortis will take the rest of today restoring power.
“I’m hopeful by tomorrow people can start to meander back here, take a look at their damage. Unfortunately some of it is quite extensive. My heart goes out to those people for sure.”
Despite all the damage, no injuries are reported.
