Calgary Next was once again a hot topic at city council on Monday, with the discussion on the proposed new arena continuing to spark discussion.
City Council says this is just the beginning, not the end of the Calgary Next project, a journey which Calgary Sports and Entertainment President Ken King says he looks forward to taking part in.
King knows they have to look at potential alternatives, with the initial West Village proposal being called “not feasible” by Administration.
“We said in the beginning that it was a partnership proposal, and in order to have a partnership you need a partner, and the city was our partner. At this point they remain engaged in considering that, not withstanding all of the challenges, I think you can’t ask more than that.”
Councillor Jim Stevenson says there’s still more work to be done. “We’re not saying this is the end. We’re saying this may not work. We still don’t know. Maybe this complex is going to end up being built in West Village. We don’t know that.”
The Flames parent group is now being asked to return to a closed door committee meeting with their response.
