The Dallas Stars, the Anaheim Ducks, the Washington Capitals and the Florida Panthers are four number seeds heading into the 2016 NHL playoffs. So which number one seed is most likely to be a first round upset victim?
The Minnesota Wild head into the playoffs on a five game losing streak. No way they are going to beat the Stars!
The Philadelphia Flyers were a great story this season, but a good story is no match for the President Trophy winning Capitals. The Caps are just too good to go down early.
The New York Islanders had 100 points this season, only three less than the Panthers. Yes, their number one goalie is on the shelf, but I wouldn’t consider it a major upset if the Islanders advance to round two. The Panthers are still unproved (in my opinion) and I think they are just happy to be back in the playoff party.
That brings us to the Nashville Predators. A tough first round match up against the best team in the NHL since the Christmas break. The Predators made a huge trade during the regular season picking up center Ryan Johansen. The Preds have solid goaltending, a great defense and just enough scoring. If a number one seed is going down in the first round, my money is on the Ducks.
Mind you I am riding the fence as I also have the Ducks going to the Stanley Cup final against the Capitals.
No Canada, no problem! I will still be watching the NHL playoffs.
