In its latest update, the Washington State Patrol says the truck hit a girder and that caused a section of the bridge to fall into a river. The police report identifies the driver as 42-year old William Scott from Spruce Grove who worked for Mullen Trucking from Aldersyde, south of Calgary. The semi hauling an oversize load made it safely off the bridge and the driver remained on scene. He was not injured. Police say charges are pending.

The police report says two vehicles following the semi fell into the shallow river. Amazingly there were no serious injuries.

The bridge links interstate 5, which runs between Seattle and B.C., and carries about 77 thousand people a day.
