Kevin Glenn continues to be everything the Stamps could have asked for an more. The efficient game manager continues to put the ball in the hands of his playmakers to let them do what they do best...and in the process not doing what he's been known for throughout his career....namely the forced play bad mistake that costs his team. That said, the 500 pound gorilla lurking by his locker stall continues to be Drew Tate.
What looked like a good news story with Tate getting healthy weeks ahead of schedule has turned out be a bit of a mystery. He continues to languish as the number three behind Bo Mitchell with no indication when he'll move up the depth chart or for that matter see from another angle than the bench. Is he healthy or not? Will he be the man down the stretch or not. Questions about this are...shall we say....deflected by John Hufnagel.
That being said, I think talk of a brewing quarterback controversy on this team is just plain dumb. As long as Tate remains unable to play, obviously Glenn remains the man. Once Tate is healthy, the team's commitment to the long term dictates that Tate will step back in. Saskatchewan's loss to Edmonton Saturday buys the team time to let Tate work off a little rust with a home playoff date looking like a sure thing.
Tate will likely struggle given the time away and the fact he didn't have much of a season to get rolling before the injury. Depending on how badly he struggles, calls for Glenn's return will be heard. But I'm not sure even the pressure to win now can sway the coach, given the fact Tate is the quarterback expected to lead this team for the future and to this point frankly, we haven't seen enough of him to know if he can.
