Mark is a Calgary native who began his broadcasting career at CFCN TV & Radio. He first grew passionate about radio in High School from listening to broadcasts from KNBR San Francisco (MLB & NBA), in addition to Joe Carbury’s calling of Calgary Centennial games and Eric Bishop’s Calgary Stampeder broadcasts.
Year joined CHQR: 1992
What you might not know about Mark: If he weren’t a Sports Broadcaster, Mark would like to have pursued a career as Archivist at the Glenbow (he has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary with a minor in History). In addition to living and breathing sports (his favorite book is Street & Smith’s Baseball Yearbook), Mark professes a liking for the Law & Order TV series. If he had to name a sports event that he has yet to cover that he would like to, he lists the World Series and the Daytona 500 as his top 2.
In addition to covering Sports on CHQR in the afternoons, Mark is the host of Sportstalk and is the play-by-play voice of the Calgary Stampeders on all CHQR broadcasts.
Family: Married, 3 children (2 boys, 1 girl)
A native of Pouce Coupe, B.C., Jock graduated from High School in Dawson Creek. Inspired by an old girlfriend, he enrolled at Mount Royal College and took the Broadcasting course. His first exposure on the airwaves was as the ski reporter for 107 KIK FM. From there, he moved up to afternoon Sports announcer and eventually Sports Director.
Sports has always been a passion with Jock. Like every kid in Canada, he wanted to play in the NHL. When he realized he wasn't good enough, he shifted his goal to making it into the NHL as a broadcaster ("I was fortunate enough to cover the 1989 Stanley Cup Playoffs"). In addition to a love for hockey, Jock says "Golf is my passion!". Like any good golf/hockey nut, Jock's favorite movies are "Slapshot" and "Caddyshack". He cites Bob Costas and Peter Maher as broadcasters he admires ("both are outstanding professionals").
Year joined CHQR: 2005. In addition to co-hosting SportsTalk, Jock works in Sales, Marketing and Promotions for the Olympic Oval.
Jock (and by the way, that is his real name)lives in Calgary with his wife, 2 kids, and dog Zinger - named after PGA golfer Paul Azinger. (We told you he liked golf!)
