Dave - I'm the WR candidate in Calgary McCall. This is the robocall one of our residents reported last night.
Jon McInnis posted on Vote Grant Galpin's Wall

"I just got a robocall "survey" asking who I'd vote for. When I chose Grant, the next question was: For which reason are you supporting the Wild Rose Party?
    1. I think schools are overfunded and parents need to pay for their own schooling.
    2. I think Albertans should be able to drink and drive right up to the legal limit with no consequences.
    3. I just want to send the Tories a message but if they smarten up I will come back to them.

    ..................

All 3 statements are blatantly false.....and certainly not what Redford promised from her campaign....

Ask Alison about her "NO TAX INCREASES".

Here are quotes from the gov's own website:

"The provincial education requisition is $1.979 billion for the 2012/13 fiscal year, an increase of 6.4 per cent from 2011/12. An accessible, quality education system is a priority for the Alberta government and for all Albertans. The requisition increase will help to fund this priority."

"Is the province collecting more than last year from Albertans for education?

In fiscal year 2012/13, the government will collect about $120 million more in education property taxes than in 2011/12. Homeowners may see an increase in their education property tax portion, based on the assessment and local education tax rates."

So Alison, how can we possibly believe your clearly misleading statements that taxes are not increasing? I can't for the life of me understand how the PC's are getting away with these blatant untruths.

I have to echo the "NO TAX INCREASES" post from TomL_6.

This is something that has been bothering me for a long time - I'm constantly seeing/hearing ads from the PCs that they are not raising taxes, and that there will be no new taxes. Yet the amount that they will be receiving via property taxes is reported to be increasing significantly. The Herald reported the take from Calgary alone would be an additional 34.8 million.

My calculator tells me that this works out to almost $32 for every man, woman, and child - and thats just for this year alone. My proportionate share of this would be almost $100 more this year... but somehow this is not a tax increase? How can they argue that if we have to pay more that it is not an increase?

The statements coming from Alison Redford regarding tax increases are more than just misleading - I also can't believe that the PCs are getting away with this.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone who either owns or rents a property should be voting out the PCs - not because they are raising property taxes, but because they are blatantly lying about it.

I'd like Raj to tell me flat out that I am either too stupid or not qualified enough to raise my own kids, because his "Head Start Program" explanation seemed to paint that picture very well. Raj, here is a "Head Start Program" for you - raise your kids properly! Your referenced evidence talks about children doing better at school if given stimulation at an early age. My question is why does this have to be at a state run school? Why are we, as parents and average Albertans not capable to stimulate and educate our young children within our own homes and furthermore, why should it be in the governments interest to pay and conduct this same activity in lieu of us as parents? Maybe he'd be better off looking at ways to make it more affordable for parents to stay in the home longer to stimulate children and create a positive presence, role models and home environment (all things proven to give a child a better start at life, stay in school longer and become a better member of society) on a day to day basis than consolidating toddlers into schools at 2 years of age. Shouldn't this be more valuable for a child's early development than simple stimulation in a school setting?

God should not enter into government. That is a personal choice. Like atheism or any other religion. It is the government's job to protect the minorities from the collective. Unfortunately, a true separation of church and state does not exist and you get uneducated, "belief" based opinions-because someone's interpretation of the bible says so. I disagree with the Pastor and I am a bit outraged as well because it based on an uneducated, intolerant "belief" and "opinion" that is not researched and only based on the interpretation of the bible that has not evolved or has only when it benefits the believers. This pastor has not investigated the science and the actual research into homosexuality and the actual amount of "choice" that goes in this "lifestyle" they disapprove of. Our political leaders and our electorate need to be educated on all subjects and this pastor clearly is not. That is the outrage. The word "tolerance" should be eliminated-as you have indicated Dave, it is demeaning to those being tolerated.

Dave, I am a Licensed Land Agent in the Province of Alberta and long time government employee. Land is a provincial jurisdiction subject to the Expropriation Act of Alberta and copied by many other provinces. Imminent Domain or Condemnation are the American terminology most often used down south. Imminent Domain is the foundation for expropriation but not the tool. When mineral rights were passed to the province in the right of the crown the feds still have ultimate authority but abide by provincial regulations unless they can stand up in Ottawa and legislate not to. ( check your Land Title in the Province of Alberta)
Expropriation Act of Alberta is probably one of the best pieces of legislation ever drafted. The Stelmach party ignored it and trampled rights with Bills to help power lines. I expect a change in government will roll this injustice out and reverse it.

I think your guest is being too gracious. As an RN I have to say I have always said this injection site idea is insane. It is like saying to someone who is about to commit suicide with a gun at their head. "Excuse me, let me sterilize that for your first." There is no logic to it at all.

Our CPP, which is a mandatory pension plan should be just like the MP's and we can start drawing at 55. Or better yet, not make it mandatory. I would rather manage my own funds for retirement. I have been out performing the current CPP since I starting saving my RSP's 11 years ago. I am also wondering if the CPP will even be ther when I retire. If there are no funds available, I better get back every penny I was forced to contribute with interest.

The Redford Gov't can't even book a trip for a holiday without wasting over $100K. How are they supposed to run a government. That was their last chance. PC reign is about to end in Alberta. Time for change with a new responsible gov't.

I was very touched by the emotion you showed Dave when remembering Ralph. I am confident that the majority of Albertans share your feelings. I really hope that Queen Redford is listining to your show today because as she sits on her throne I hope that she reflects on her current reign compared to Ralph's and realizes that while she may be high on the hog now, as she pulls the wool over Albertan's eyes, when it really counts, the ordinary Albertan will not shed a tear for her. On the other hand, I truly believe that Danielle Smith is more like Ralph and I hope one day she gets the chance to show it.

@JackieF Couldn't have said it better myself. Ralph was a great Premier not because he promised people things, or slashed the budget or any of that stuff. He was honest with people first and foremost, he was someone everyone from the poorest man to the richest family in the province could relate to and most importantly he was real. He spoke his mind and took pride in how he felt because that was an extension of who he is and he governed with that opinion of right and wrong. Hate or love his politics all you want but you HAD to respect where he came from and that he had guts enough to lay it out there bluntly for us all to see - nothing was hidden, he was at full value. In essence, he was a true leader. Ms. Redford and any politician in Canada could truly learn something from him and get away from the constant message planning and selective pandering that is a staple of Canadian politics these days.
That said, my personal deepest regret was never getting a chance to meet him - not Premier Klein, but rather just Ralph.
