A 6.4-magnitude aftershock has hit the West Coast, near Sandspit, just 30 minutes ago.

Around 8 last night, the north-central coast of British Columbia was hit by a violent earthquake measuring 7.7.

The quake was centred on the Haida Gwaii islands off the coast, shaking homes, knocking out power and triggering tsunami warnings as far away as Hawaii.

Residents along the northern coast say the earthquake was felt from Alaska to Metro Vancouver.

There are no reports of injuries
