Zellers workers joined together today to protest Target's staffing plans. Simultaneous protests were held at two Zellers locations in Calgary.

Target has told workers they will have to reapply for their jobs.

Kevin Shimmin is the National Representative for the The United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

Shimmin says there are a number of long term employees who are affected, "Zellers is pretty unique in the retail sector as far as you do have quite a few full time employees. A lot of people with 20 years of service. Even 30 years. What they're going to have to do is compete with everybody else who's coming into the retail sector brand new for those same jobs. In basically the same store -- but just with the new Target label on it."

Target has not provided specifics as to starting pay and benefits.
