A Calgary Alderman says planning for new communities should also include where potential cell phone towers will be built. The city has no say on the location of cell phone towers, that is something approved by a federal government department. The city can write up a letter stating their objection which many times is ignored. It's a dilemma that has been going on for years, Alderman Richard Pootmans says some of the acrimony could be dealt with if people going into a new area had an idea where the towers might spring up. "How exciting is that a resident can go in with some confidence into a community with a fair degree of certainty they will not have to endure a fractious community fight whether or not a cell tower goes in." A report into the issue will come back to a city hall committee early next year.
