Calgary could soon have more representation in Ottawa if proposed changes to electoral districts go ahead.
The number of ridings in Canada is revised every 10 years to reflect population shifts and growth. That means the riding in which you live and vote may change.
The proposed changes to the federal electoral map include the creation of 6 new ridings in Alberta, increasing the number of MP's from our province from 28 to 34.
Calgary's ridng count would go from the current 8 to 10 by the next federal election , expected in 2015.
Alberta's population has grown significantly in the past decade, increasing from about 2.9 million in 2001 to over 3.6 million in 2011.
A series of public hearings on the proposed changes to the federal electoral map for Alberta are underway, with meetings in Calgary scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
