A notorious sex offender has been sentenced for kidnapping a 10 year old girl and impersonating a police officer a year and a half ago.
John Francis Dionne has been sentenced to nine years in prison, but with time served it works out to 7 and a half years.
Dionne has been labelled a dangerous offender, meaning he will be subjected to 10 years of probationary supervision once he is released.
He was arrested in February 2011 after a ten year old girl was taken from Deerfoot Mall.
He told her he was a police officer and he was arresting her for shoplifting and that she would have to go with him.
She was eventually dropped off, untouched, at a McDonald's restaurant in Airdrie.
The crown was seeking a sentence of 9 to 11 years, while the defence wanted seven.
