The Lethbridge-area grass fire is now considered under control - but evacuation orders remain in effect. The blaze broke out at around 1pm Monday on the Blood Reserve and was carried quickly by heavy winds. All residents in the town of Coalhurst were evacuated as well as some residents within the County of Lethbridge. Also evacuated were campers at Bridgeview Campground off Highway 3 and a trailer court in the City of Lethbridge. The fire is believed to have started by a downed power line on the reserve. Firefighters from several areas as well as planes from Sustainable Resource Development aided in the fight. Wind warnings in the area were lifted late Monday night.
Meanwhile about 800 residents of Milk River were allowed to go back home this morning, after a grassfire threatened that community yesterday. Fire crews were able to get the upper hand on the fire overnight.
