Calgary fire crews rushed to a three alarm fire at a south east hotel this morning. At around 6:30 this morning, fire crews got the report of heavy smoke coming from the Shamrock Hotel in the 21-hundred block of 11th Street SE. Upon arrival, flames and thick black smoke were seen pouring from the windows, and the Fire captain called in a second, and then a third alarm. Battalion Chief Larry Fisher says their first priority was the safety of those inside. Windows were removed and ladder trucks were used to pluck some of those to safety. Eleven people were evacuated - 3 were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Once crews got everyone out safely they got to work battling the blaze, and it was quickly knocked down. Fisher says the fire broke out in one of the main floor suites, and damage there is extensive, with heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the hotel. Its too early to determine what caused the fire.
