The Alberta Liberal Agriculture and Rural Development Critic says the Redford government needs to spend more money on rat patrols before things get out of hand. Darshan Kang says it's a war for our province that the Progressive Conservatives are dangerously close to losing. "It is time to step up," remarked Kang. "I think the government responded to slowly to this outbreak. They should have jumped on it right away and tried to contain this. But, it looks like enough is not being done." Kang says Medicine Hat has been putting in a good effort, doing its best to keep the rats from spreading from the landfill to the city. He says he comes from India where he has seen, first hand, the type of damage an out of control rat population can do to an area. "They could do lots of damage to our grain and they could cause all kinds of health issues." (td)
