Fire destroys Chief Chiniki restaurant west of Calgary
_News Talk 770
8/21/2012

Crews will be out most of the day, mopping up hot spots at the site of the Chief Chiniki restaurant west of Calgary which was destroyed by fire early this morning. The Nakoda fire chief says they believe the fire started in the west side of the building, which was the dining room section of the TransCanada Highway landmark. Many band members are very upset about the fire because they remember the history of the restaurant. It was designed by a late chief, Frank Chiniki who decided to re-invest oil and gas royalties into some other businesses that would bring in revenue for the reserve.
