Calls continue to allow bylaw officers to be armed

Peace officers hope to be part of the debate when the provincial government considers a call to give them guns and Tasers.  Sergeant Dwight Dawn, speaking for the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers, says work done by the unarmed officers can put them in as much danger as what police and sheriffs face.  Dawn tells the Rutherford Show on QR77 that he could be pulling someone over at night and they may not realize it's not the police with the red-and-blue lights.  Dawn says once the memorial service for murdered peace officer Rod Lazenby is held next week, the association will make sure it has a seat at the table when the Solicitor General reviews equipment including weapons.
