Fairmont resort re-opens after mudslide

Three weeks after a massive mud slide all but closed down the community of Fairmont, B.C., the resort re-opened just in time for the August long weekend.

Crews have been working non-stop since July 15th when a massive mudslide covered the highway and resort with rocks and mud. Crews used GPS coordinates to locate the source for the hot springs which were buried six metres under mud and rubble.

Peter Smith...Director of Golf and Executive Vice President of Fairmont Hotsprings Resort says there's still a lot of work remaining before they can re-open the Mountainside golf course.

The slide was caused by a buildup of water in a small creek that formed a dam which ultimately burst, causing millions of dollars in damage.
