A company that runs a former hospital site that provides health services to the public has been charged with failing to maintain its fire alarm systems.
The Calgary Fire Department says it has laid nine charges under the Safety Codes Act against Enterprise Universal, which runs the Holy Cross Centre.
The company and owners Peter and Ian Huang are charged with failing to follow the Alberta Fire Code, including failing to maintain sprinkler systems in the buildings.
The fire department says this is the second time that Enterprise Universal has been charged with such offences, which carry a maximum fine of $30,000.
The accused are to appear in provincial court Aug. 1.
Enterprise, which purchased the site from the Alberta government in 1997, says it will vigorously defend itself and believe it will be fully exonerated.
