Staff embroiled in a labour dispute with the owner of a northeast seniors care facility were locked out this morning. More than 90 nursing and support staff at the Monterey Place facility have been bargaining with their employer "Triple A Living Communities" for over a year. Karen Weiers with the AUPE, the union representing staff claims the for-profit company is withholding some of the province's funding intended for staff, resulting in substandard wages and benefits for workers. Weiers say it's going to be difficult for Monterey Place to attract and keep employees...leading to staffing shortages and increased workloads, which in the end will affect residents.
