We now know who will lead the inquiry into possible queue-jumping in Alberta's health-care system. Long-time Calgary resident Sheila-Marie Suzanne Cook will serve as executive director of the inquiry. She has led eight major Royal Commissions and public policy reviews including the inquiry into the bombing of Air India Flight 132, and then-mayor Ralph Klein appointed her as the city's chief of protocol for the '88 Olympics. If she finds evidence of improper preferential access, she will be able to make recommendations to preventing it in the future. The inquiry was launched after allegations that friends and families of MLAs were getting preferential treatment when in need of health care services. A new website, http://www.healthaccessinquiry.ca , is also being launched to help track the process.
