The Calgary Rowing Club is upset with the City of Calgary for keeping the Glenmore Reservoir closed to recreational users. City officials says it is a safety hazard to allow boats on the water due to unstable conditions caused by heavy rain and the melting of the snow pack. But John Reid with the Rowing Club says he doesn't buy it. He says something has changed over the last couple of years and it feels like it has more to do with leadership than it does with safety. Reid says the closure doesn't only impact his club but also the Glenmore Sailing Club, Calgary Canoe Club and the Calgary Dragon Boat Society, which all operate on the Reservoir. Reid says the Calgary Rowing Club is scheduled to host the Alberta Open Regatta on June 30th, but will have to cancel the event if the reservoir isn't opened within the next few days.
