There's no apparent justification for this week's spike in gasoline prices according to a pump price watcher. Prices spiked as much as 6 cents a litre in Calgary over the past 24 hours.
Jason Toews co-founder of GasBuddy.com says there are times when "higher demand" is a legitimate reason for prices to climb. But Toews says this doesn't seem to be one of those times. "We haven't hit full swing of summer driving season, so I'm not sure this is justified yet."
Toews expects prices to be over a $1.20 a litre in Alberta when the real summer driving season arrives in July and August.
