Some tense moments in a southeast community Wednesday night after the bomb squad had to be called in. Better safe than sorry is how officers are looking at it. Acting Staff Sergeant Kelly Oberg says the original call came in as the supper-hour began, from a homeowner on Penworth Drive, cleaning up after a tenant just moved out. He says the homeowner believed he found 15 sticks of dynamite in a bucket. Five homes on either side were warned to go to their basements as a precaution. A bomb technician went in and quickly determined it was road flares. But Oberg says to the untrained eye, they looked legit. He adds the homeowner did the right thing, taking the proper precautions and calling police. It took police about an hour to clear the scene.
