Alberta's new minimum wage isn't going to do what the government thinks it will, according to an advocacy group representing small businesses, and they're asking the government to do something to protect them.
Richard Truscott from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says either way, it's not going to help anyone. He says just hiking the minimum wage won't do what the government thinks it will.
Truscott adds that if the government goes ahead with the wage hike, then it should be offset with a tax credit for small businesses. The new minimum wage starts in September, but it will keep Alberta near the bottom of the table for pay scale.
