A fierce winter storm is expected in southeastern and east central Alberta today. Blizzard and winter storm warnings have been posted.   

A storm system is moving north into southeastern alberta and southern saskatchewan bringing snowfall amounts of 10 to 25 centimeters and strong north winds gusting to 70 kilometers an hour. Blizzard warnings are in effect for Hanna, Coronation, Oyen, Medicine Hat, Bow Island, Suffield, Cypress Hills and Foremost. Winter storm warnings with snow and blowing snowing are in place for the east portions of the Brooks, Drumheller, Red Deer and Lethbridge regions.

Residents are cautioned these are dangerous winter weather conditions and are urged to monitor conditions and listen for updated statements.

Conditions should improve this evening as this system tracks off to the northeast.
