Oilsands producers are trying to combat environmental concerns with a new partnership. It's called Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance, or COSIA, and has a focus of improving environmental performance in the oilsands. CEOs from twelve companies have signed the founding charter including Imperial Oil, Suncor and Shell. Officials hope that by working together, they will be able to address the concerns around the environment but also around funding and resources. Dr. Dan Wicklum has been named the Chief Executive and says he understands the expectations of Canadians, which need to be met and exceeded. He says the group is about science and not about public relations, which sits well with Ed Whittingham of the Pembina Institute. He's "cautiously optimistic" that oilsands companies are realizing that "business as usual" isn't going to cut it anymore.
