GTA School Boards Facing Deep Cuts
Toronto/Am640 News

6/13/2012

Toronto and Peel's school boards are preparing for their biggest budget cuts since the Harris years.

The TDSB will have their new budget on the table at a board meeting later today where they'll be trying to make up a $58 million deficit.

Some of the cuts being considered are shutting down 32 school cafeterias to generate $600,000 in savings along with an increase in permit fees for rentals of school properties.

The board cut $50.6 million earlier this year in labour costs.

Meantime the second largest school board in the country behind Toronto, Peel, will also be struggling to find savings where they face cuts of at least $10 million.
