Seizing vehicles, bad idea.

We know speed kills ... ergo more speed would kill more people. However the province is wise to put the brakes on an idea being pushed by the Alberta Chiefs of Police Association. The Association wants the province to bring in a law that would give police the power to seize a vehicle caught going 50 kilometres over the speed limit. No jury, no judge, no right to a fair trial, it would all happen on the side of the road.  Before you accuse me of siding with the bad guy, in this case the bad driver who thought he or she was in such a hurry or had to prove just how 'fast' their car could go, back up a moment. The police are here to enforce the laws of the land and right now there are laws against speeding and consequences whether they are fines or demerit points, ...



Young people in no rush to drive

When I was sixteen I couldn't wait to get my driver's license.  In fact I even tested out my skills a couple of years ahead of that milestone with a friend's older sister in an empty parking lot. A license meant freedom and in small town Saskatchewan everyone was hungry for that.  Fast forward a lot of years and I find myself in another empty parking lot with my daughter who has passed that milestone reluctantly sitting behind the wheel.  She lacks the 'drive', no pun intended, to get her license.  It was a similar story for my son who only got his license a day ahead of setting out for university.  As a parent I have found myself in a tough place.  I wanted them to get their license, but at the same time I didn't spend the last couple of years worrying about them driving.  When I was ...
