The Tragedy of Amanda Todd
Posted 10/17/2012 4:23:00 PM

A young impressionable girl makes one bad decision and it haunts her for the rest of her short life. The story of Amanda Todd from B.C. has hit a nerve for so many of us, from parents with teenagers to educators and law enforcement authorities who wonder how they could have prevented it.

By now you know the story of Amanda who bared her breasts to someone she met online.  That decision sent her life on a downward spiral when the pictures were spread all over social media.  Amanda couldn't run from them or her tormentor who threatened to do more if she didn't do what he asked her. She felt her only way out was to take her life.

The story is tragic on so many levels. Why were police unable to catch the person who was spreading such images? Why did other teens use this as an opportunity to make Amanda the 'bad' person instead of being empathetic?

Parents who think it would never happen to their kids should think again. They need to tell their children that whatever is shown on line, from photos of the family pet, to an intimate picture just for your boyfriend or girlfriend to see, is really being shown to the world and they have to be mature enough to live with the consequences.
