The Premier comes clean
Posted 10/3/2012 12:51:00 PM

In politics, perception is reality. The Redford government wants to be perceived as open and transparent. And that's why the premier has gone above and beyond the mandate she issued to MLA's to post their hosting and travel expenses on line. Premier Redford has gone back to 2008 when she served as justice minister. Finding all the information is tricky, I scoured the government website but with no luck, and that's why I"m relying on the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal reporters for alot of the details. When they went through all the numbers they saw some obvious expenses, as premier,Alison Redford flies business class. But they also found alot of questionable charges. More than 24 hundred dollars for her 2012 Law Society dues, add that to the 18 hundred dollars for dues back in 2008. Yes the Premier is a lawyer by profession, but is she practicing while being Premier? That's a cost that she should bear. There is the 900 dollar a night hotel bill for one night's stay in the Hay Adams hotel in Washington D.C. I don't expect the premier of our province to stay at a Super 8, but 900 dollars. This has been and will continue to be an interesting exercise for our premier and MLAs. They should think twice about the choices they make when travelling and hosting events , because while the perception is they are open and transparent, the reality may be they don't treat taxpayers' dollars with the necessary respect.
