The federal Liberals need a leader, but it can't be a ghost from the past. It would be so tempting for the party big wigs to convince Justin Trudeau to take a shot at the job. After all, now that Bob Rae has said a convincing 'no' the Liberals are in need of a 'name' to inject some excitement into any leadership race, and Trudeau brings that 'star power' the party has been looking for. But the young politician also brings inexperience and baggage he has inherited from his father. We've been so focused on the Rae-Trudeau dilemma that we haven't heard a lot about other potential candidates. There's astronaut Marc Garneau or Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's brother David , but neither brings the same attention as Bob Rae or Justin Trudeau. So Mr. Rae is out, and Mr. Trudeau is 'listening' to all the leadership pressure. As exciting and ego-driven as a run would be, I think it's in the best interest of the party and Trudeau's political future that he sits this one out.
