A Calgary Flames fan who has decked out his car to show support for the team, is hoping the city will pitch in to help make it road ready in time for the start of the playoffs.
Tyler Van Voorene told News Talk 770 the car, which has been painted with a giant flaming “C” on its hood, is in need of some work before it can roll down the Red Mile.
“I got it going, but there’s so many things wrong with it. It’s got leaks and a smashed windshield and all this kind of stuff. And it needs a battery,” he said.
Van Voorene has set up a gofundme page to try to raise funds for the project. He said Tuesday he would push ahead with it regardless, but added after being laid off a couple years ago –and bouncing from job to job – he’s having trouble getting the cash together.
“I’m not in the best situation for money. I’m doing this and it’s pushing me further into debt, but it’s so much fun,” he said.
Van Voorene said he first fixed up the clunker during the Flames 2015 playoff run. It cost him about $400 dollars and he expects he’ll have to cough up the same amount of cash this year, because of all the work that needs to be done.
But, he said it’s worth it to be a part of the excitement on the Red Mile.
“It was a huge hit [in 2015]; driving it down the Red Mile and driving it everywhere in the city. People just loved it.”
