According to poll results released by Mainstreet Research this morning, 62% of Canadians say the NHL’s decision to skip next year’s Olympics is the wrong move.
The two reasons this poll doesn’t matter are:
1. The vast majority of Americans asked the same question either didn’t care or had no opinion. So go-no go has no impact on the NHL’s American audience.
2. Gary Bettman knows this is a national crisis in Canada, and couldn’t care less. Simply put, he figures your dismay over the Olympics won’t translate into a TV or ticket boycott leading up or during the Games.
Ask yourself: Am I willing to ditch my tickets, turn off the TV all season long, and not buy a new Adidas jersey, or come next February will I be locked in to the Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada while a plucky group of AHL and Euro league stand-ins don the Maple Leaf half a world away?
Gary thinks he knows the answer.
