A passerby is getting a nod of appreciation from paramedics for leaping into action when a car caught fire near Balzac on Thursday morning.
The car had collided with the rear of a cattle-hauler at around 11:40 a.m. The driver was trapped inside the car and a fire had broken out in the engine compartment.
A passing motorist stopped and used a fire extinguisher to fight the flames. When EMS arrived, the fire was still burning and they used the extinguisher from their ambulance and entered the burning vehicle but were still unable to free the driver.
The man in his 30’s was finally extricated when fire crews arrived.
The driver was taken to hospital with mostly soft-tissue injuries.
